    MONTEVERDI HAI

MONTEVERDI "HAI" 450 SS A former racing driver, and a great fan and admirer of Ferrari, Peter Monteverdi was unable to resist the lure of motor sport. At the 1970 Geneva Show, he caused a sensation with his berlinetta "Hai". It had a Chrysler V8 450 bhp engine with hemispherical cylinder heads coupled to a mechanical ZF 5-speed gearbox and was mounted in a rear central position. The bodywork was by Fissore and could reach speeds of more than 180 mph.

      FERRARI MODULO

FERRARI 512 MODULO Continuing its research in aerodynamics, Pininfarina produced the "Modulo" in 1970, based on a 512 S chassis with a central V12 5-litre engine. The roof and windscreen slide forward to allow access to the cockpit. The round air intakes of the engine are a new stylistic element and the wheels are partly streamlined. Jackie Stewart, complete with long hair and flares, is shown here posing next to the Modulo.

MONTEVERDI 375 In addition to the Coupé 375 and Cabriolet 375 C, the Monteverdi range exhibited on the Geneva Show stands also included the 375 High Speed 2+2. FORD GRANADA

At the 1972 Geneva Show, Ford launched the Granada model, the successor of the 17/20 and 26 M. The range immediately included three versions, a coupé, saloon and estate powered by V4 and V6 engines, the coupé having the most powerful unit, a V6 3-litre engine, producing 138 bhp. With the exception of the coupe, which was similar to the Capri in style, the design was taut and clean, reflecting the spirit of the 1970s.

                  FORD CAPRI

FORD CAPRI RANGE First produced in January 1969, the Ford Capri rapidly resulted in many different models, which became increasingly high-performance and sports-oriented, firstly with a 4-cylinder in-line engine and then a V6, with capacity ranging from 1.3 to 3.0 litres. In the early 1970s, the sports versions became famous in many competitions and Ford, which had bought the Ghia coachworks, offered a luxury version under this range.

The Fiat X I/9 coupé with a mid-mounted engine made its Swiss debut at the 1973 Show. At this time, the Geneva team Scuderia Filipinetti was under contract to Fiat to run the 128 in the European Touring Championships. In the context of this collaboration, an X I/9 coupé was prepared for the Targa Florio by the engineers Parkes and Dallara but it never took part in the race due to the untimely death of Georges Filipinetti.

PEUGEOT 604 The success of the 504 encouraged Peugeot to attack the top end of the market. At the 1975 Geneva Show, the marque from Sochaux launched the 604, a large 4-door saloon with a V6 engine in a 90° V arrangement with 2664 cc which developed 136 bhp-DIN. The new car was no doubt intended to compete with its "enemy sister ", the R 30 TS by Renault,it was very different from the latter with tauter bodywork lines.

After a 4-cylinder 924 engine which was first produced in the autumn of 1975, Porsche took the unusual step for the brand of presenting a front-mounted engine at the 1977 Geneva Show, a large coupé powered by a V8 4.5-litre engine with a single overhead camshaft per row of cylinders, producing 240 bhp. The new car was added to the range of 911 classics and was intended for customers wanting a great tourer.

Although the Sahara 4x4 which was exhibited for the first time on the marque's stand had already been placed on the market, the Military 230 M was in fact a world premiere at the 1979 Show and opened the way for the future Hummer and other all-terrain Mercedes. The Military was powered by a 4-cylinder diesel in-line 3.2-litre engine which provided 86 bhp and guaranteed excellent obstacle crossing ability thanks to the vehicle's 4-wheel drive mechanism.
