pa me interesuje sta vi mislite o tome...

i drugi deo posta koji me je zaintrigirao:
Garrett's were first built as industrial plant turbos.... i.e. you'd find it strapped to the side of a CAT or a Kenworth, swift spool speeds, and efficient delivery of pressure was not a primary concern.... as a result their exhaust and compressor housings were designed less efficiently, and only recently have they matched (stolen?) the impellar efficiency of the IHI's.
On the other side we have IHI, who's application has always been perfomance. Ferrari used IHI's in the 288GTO & F-40, Maserati (who between 1980 & 2001 have not built a normally aspirated motor (except ferrari blocks)) have used twin IHI's on all their 6 & 8 cylinder engines!
It has been my experience (charade GTti (IHI RHB31) TX3 Laser (RHB5-Vj20) shamal (twin IHI ????'s (RHB5's i think)) that IHI's have a quick spool up (quick means FULL boost by 2800 RPM), and are generally very responsive. wheras the Garrett's (VL Turbo (t03 (is that right)) Nissan Skyline (txx???? (fill the gap someone?)) are slow to spool (nothing bekow 3k), and feel either generally sluggish or surgey,(i believe the t-28's are better, but i don't believe i have been in a car with a t28.) i know sluggish/surgey has more to do with engine/turbo matching than model of turbo, but you would think nissan could get it right by now.
i guess in summary i'm wondering why someone would use a turbo developed for a kenworth truck when the turbo used by ferrari and maserati may be just as viable an option.
correct me if i'm wrong here, but don't WRX's run IHI's (i know the liberty RS's did) why would you replace an IHI with a garrett??? not that i like WRX's but if ye want more flow why not replace the RHB5 with an RHB6 instead of a t03/4?????
i know a fair bit about turbo's, and engines/cars in general, however i am by no means a god at it..... if i have misquoted something above, please correct me.
and please, let's not turn this into a flame session, good technical discussions backed up by evidence is so much more fun!
