GM shuts down Saab production
General Motors (GM) has announced that it will stop the production of its Swedish auto brand Saab due to heavy losses and lack of a buyer.
The Dutch sports car maker Spyker had been engaged in talks with GM regarding the sale of the Saab division but the parties failed to reach an agreement.
"GM had been in discussions with Spyker Cars about its interest in acquiring Saab. During the due diligence, certain issues arose that both parties believe could not be resolved," the Detroit carmaker said in a statement on Friday.
The company lost another potential buyer last month as Sweden's Koenigsegg Group AB withdrew its bid.
The technology of Saab's 9-3 and 9-5 car models will be sold to another Chinese firm, called BAIC, which plans to develop its own brand of cars.

Dakle "gazde" iz Detroita su svojim "domaćinskim poslovanjem" došli glave još jednom brendu, što više nije nikakva novost. Žalosno je što se ovog puta ne radi o nekom Saturnu ili Mercuru ili nekom drugom domicilnom brendu maštovito imenovanom po nekoj planeti ili vasionskom telu, nego o brendu koji je tehnološki, kvalitativno i na svaki drugi način bio ispred svega i bolji verovatno od svega što Detroit zna danas da napravi.
Kakvi su efekti njihovog upravljanja SAAB-om najbolje govori činjenica da su oni po odvajanju SAAB-a od Scania-e 1989. godine za 50% deonica i isto toliko udela u menadžmentu SAAB-a morali da plate 600 miliona USD, a da su samo 11 godina nakon toga preostalih 50 % otkupili za samo 125 milona USD. Medjutim ono što je najžalosnije i vrlo deprimirajuće je to što je GM dobio onolike milijarde USD pomoći od države a dobiće još oko 30 milijardi USD i preživeće sve ovo iako je zaslužio katanac još odavno, a sa druge strane Švedska nije stala iza SAAB-a i otkupila ga kad ga je GM već prodavao, ili bar pomogla (recimo Koeniggseggu) u njegovom povratku o domaće vlasništvo u nekom drugom obliku. Njihov ministar za industriju, Maud Olofsson, je doslovno izjavio da Švedska: "nema raspoložive ekspertize i novca" da to uradi, što je po meni neshvatljivo, neracionalno i za žaljenje.
U medjuvremenu, GM, za čiji je potpuni finansijski oporavak (tačnije povratak na "pozitivnu nulu") potrebno ukupno izmedju 100 i 130 miliijardi USD (???), imenuje nove šefove Buick-a i GMC-a, dok SAAB prećutno "pustaju niz vodu". Bahatost je jedna od reči koja mi pada na pamet. Ona druga nije za javnost.
